Bijapur, or Vijayapura as it is now known, was the capital of the Adil Shahi dynasty from 1490 to 1686. It is famous for its impressive buildings and dargahs. We walk you through it’s ups and downs.

While Mohammad Adil Shah is buried in Gol Gumbaz whose dome is the second-largest, after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the last Sultan lies in a simple open grave near a busy marketplace.
