This blog-post had gone silent for the last couple of months as the events around Delhi and involving Dilliwalahs were beyond my satirical dispensation. But now, all of a sudden, there is so much to bellow about. So here goes (with profound apologies):
First of all, this is time to congratulate Dilliwalahs for not having sent that TV soap-opera actress who operates from realms of vacuity and tries to camouflage her ineptitude with her histrionics. Having not being on a university campus as a student herself (that’s alright, she still is apt at sending recommendations for sacking Vice Chancellors of Universities!), she perhaps does not quite relate to the spirit of openness that prevails in our campuses. So pardon her Dilliwalahs but pat yourselves. She is there in the Parliament not because of your misdemeanour.
Now on to Mr Arun Jaitley, a Dilliwalah, who for some quirky logic was denied the opportunity to represent Delhi in the Lower House by the Sangh think-tank. Well, he ain’t that bad a parliamentarian and is someone Dilliwalahs look up to (skirmishes with one Kirti Azad and that CM of ours notwithstanding). Mr. Arun Jaitley has been a student leader during his time at the University of Delhi so it was surprising that he kept aloof on the issues of asphyxiation of free expression and, of lives on University campuses. Not just that – he has now chosen to come out and support the soap-opera actress who has been unleashed on impressionable minds as the Minister of Human Resource Development. That really hurts, Mr Jaitley! Wish you go back in time to your days on the campus and relive those fun, fearless moments of debates that students engage in every nook and cranny of the Campus.
Hey, there was some good news too. And it came from the field of cricket for Dilliwalahs. No its nothing from DDCA (to borrow an expression from cricket – that body can’t ever play straight and in line!). Rishab Pant and Pawan Negi gave us some reason to cheer about. So keep your chin up Dilliwalahs and enjoy the spring.
