Delhi has an alternate voice in the Parliament
BJP may have won all the seven seats from Delhi in the Lok Sabha election 2024 but we still have a non-BJP leader from Delhi in the 18th Lok Sabha. Bimol Akoijam, an associate professor at the School of Social Sciences of Jawaharlal Nehru University, won the Inner Manipur seat. The professor won on an INC ticket and that too by an impressive margin of over a lakh votes in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. Prof Akoijam decided to join active politics following the outbreak of the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur and he is bound to raise issues that may rattle the Government at the centre a little.
There is another professor from Delhi in the Parliament. Manoj Kumar Jha of the Delhi School of Social Work, Delhi University is a member of Rajya Sabha. He is the national spokesperson of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and is known for his impressive speeches in the Upper House that often are inconvenient and embarrassing for the government.
So cheer up Dilliwalahs, what if our man AK’s brigade was taken to the cleaners by the BJP in the polls – Delhi will not be without an alternative voice in the parliament.
