An evangelist working to boycott Chinese goods is MP from Chandni Chowk
Law graduate, Praveen Khandelwal
of the Bhartiya Janta Party defeated veteran politician Jai Prakash Aggarwal of INC to gain entry into the lower house from the Chandni Chowk constituency. Besides being on the government’s GST panel Khandelwal is the founder and general secretary of Confederation of All India Traders. Chandni Chowk has, arguably, the oldest bazaars of north India housing a large number of businesses and traders. Khandelwal is also a member of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) as a Central Government panel’s advisor. He is also the force behind the campaign titled “Indian Goods – Our Pride” aimed at boycotting of Chinese goods across the country.
Chandni Chowk is perhaps the only constituency of Delhi where a non-BJP candidate led at some stage during the counting of votes only to lose in the end by over 80,000 votes. This could be because Jai Prakash Aggarwal is a popular figure in Delhi having won two Lok Sabha polls and having represented Delhi in the Rajya Sabha too. If only Khandelwal ensures that the vision that the late CM of Delhi, Shiela Dikhit, had for Chandni Chowk’s redevelopment is executed properly – he would win the hearts of his voters and distracters alike. Only if!
