Delhi Is Talking About

First Kirori Mal College alumni and now Hindu College alumni

There is something about the alumni of Delhi University’s colleges. The alumni of Kirori Mal College that got together to generate funds to reconstruct the college auditorium. This auditorium is where a lot of prominent actors and directors chiselled their talents. First there was Dr Frank Thakur Das and for the last four decades or so – it’s been Keval Arora who have mentored students and facilitated their talent to flourish under the banner of its theatre society – The Players. Kirori Mal College alumni boast of Amitabh Bachchan, late Satish Kaushik, late Ravi Baswani, film director Kabir Khan, late Dinesh Thakur, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Siddharth, Vijay Raaz, and many young actors such as Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub and Divyenndu.

Now the Hindu College alumni is getting together to restore the old Hindu College complex at Kashmere Gate that is currently part of a Zonal office complex of the MCD and now lies in disrepair. Delhi’s St. Stephen’s and Hindu Colleges used to be at Kashmere Gate in the palatial house complex that Col James Skinner built for himself in 1820s. It is right behind Delhi’s oldest church, St. James Church. The old students want to take this up as a part of the 125 years celebrations of Hindu College’s existence.
