Sushma Swaraj’s Daughter Bansuri Plays Melody Now
Bansuri Swaraj of BJP
won the prestigious New Delhi Lok Sabha seat in the just concluded Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Bansuri is the daughter of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. She got the ticket to contest after BJP decided to drop the sitting New Delhi MP and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi. Not that Bansuri is unworthy of being a MP but her nomination did raise eyebrows because the BJP is constantly beating about Parivarwad (political dynasty) despite having numerous such cases within the party where the next generation of party leaders have been groomed to take on the baton from their parents.
Bansuri got 53.5% of the total valid votes and defeated the AAP candidate by 78,240 votes. By the way, her mother, the late Sushma Swaraj, was the Chief Minister of Delhi for a short period in 1998 so the Delhi connection runs deep. Quick to get cracking, Bansuri has already called out the Aam Aadmi Party as the main reason for the water crisis in Delhi, the capital of India. Dilliwalahs are in for some fun as two foreign-educated ladies – Atishi of AAP and Bansuri get into a duel on who is to be blamed for all that ails Delhi. One thing is for sure that the language will not be as crass as the nation witnessed during the nation-wide polls. Some relief, this!
